About us

Vision Statement:

To provide the highest quality, leading edge swim programs which are safe, inclusive and where learning is fun.

We have a standardised stroke development process all teachers understand and follow.  We are also acutely aware a 'one-size-fits-all' approach will not always suit some individual students, so we do modify these processes where appropriate to deliver value to such students.

We aim to deliver:

A swim program that is both enjoyable for all as well as challenging our students to succeed and achieve above and beyond their current levels of proficiency.

A strong focus on technique – we ensure all children learn swimming techniques that will serve them well throughout their lives whether as competitive or purely recreational swimmers.

A professional and co-operative working relationship with all our customers.

Our team:

Northlakes Swim Centre employs staff with industry knowledge, appropriate qualifications, swimming backgrounds and technical skills to deliver a top-quality program.  Our staff members continually work towards engaging the children to ensure their swimming journey is enjoyable, educational, motivating, challenging and rewarding.

Susan Mothershaw has been working in the industry for over 27 years as a Teacher, Coach, Co Ordinator, Manager, Swim School Owner, Course Trainer and Industry Presenter at local, state, national and international conferences.

Susan grew up in Brisbane where all her time was in a swimming pool either training, competing, or playing.  When Susan finished her schooling, her career path was led into the Advertising Industry starting in a Brisbane based agency learning all facets of the business and then moving to Sydney to pursue the Media pathway as Media Planner/Buyer at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising. Before moving to UK and Republic of Ireland, Susan transitioned her career back to her main love, “The Water” and became a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety.

On her return to Australia, she continued her learning by completing all Teacher qualifications and her coaching qualification. Susan’s love and passion is everything Learn to Swim, guiding and nurturing our students into the competitive environment.

On a personal note, Susan’s other passion is travelling, and she has travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, USA, Middle East, Mediterranean, as well as Australia.  Travelling adventures include throwing a tent, sleeping bag, pillow and camera in the back of the car and seeing where the road takes her.  When not working and travelling Susan enjoys time on the water paddling her river skis with friends (quite often with her friend and presenting partner, Olympian, Sue Harbottle).  This has certainly made the move to the NSW Central Coast an easy move and is looking forward to becoming heavily involved in the community.

Our programs are carefully planned to allow our swimmers to learn and
apply skills by progressions, challenging our learners in a nurturing
environment with an element of fun.

Our service

We encourage an honest, open, caring and trusting relationship with our customers, listening, and responding to their feedback.

We have a unique, needs-based learning approach to swim teaching.  This approach is based on our own methodology enabling us to swiftly assess a child’s current proficiency level and then stream them into appropriate groups so that students can progress at levels that best suit their needs.

Each child is then able to derive a strong sense of satisfaction and achievement by making significant progress from their respective starting points.

Our swimming program includes:

  • Learn to Swim for children

  • Holiday Programs

We will be further developing our program soon to include:

  • Adult Learn to Swim

  • Aqua Aerobics

  • Special Needs Programs
